Special Needs Cat Needs a Home

  • April 14, 2011

This is an appeal from JerseyCats, a certified rescue and adoption organization.

Handsome Gino desperately needs a home.  He is in foster care, but his time there is running out.  His foster parents simply cannot keep him much longer.

Gino has Feline Leukemia (FeLV).  FeLV is a retrovirus similar to feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).  It is not contagious to humans, but can be passed to other cats. so Gino needs a home where he is the only cat, or with other FeLV positive cats.

Gino is currently asymptomatic and very healthy.  Recent blood work was perfect.  While his FeLV will eventually make him sick, that may not happen for years.

We all take risks when we adopt animals.  Any one of them may get sick at any time.  Those of us who have dealt with cats with cancer or heart disease or kidney disease know this all to well.  For Gino that eventuality may be certain rather than just possible, but that makes him no less deserving of a real, forever home.  He needs a place to live out his days, however many that may be, knowing that he is safe and secure, and home.

If you don't have a cat and are considering adopting, why not give this special guy a chance?  You will be rewarded with purr-filled gratitude, unconditional love, and the best football watching buddy you could ask for.
