Best Pizza: Finding A Slice of Life In Union County

Patch continues its weekly search for the best of everything in the county. Let us know who makes the perfect pizza.

We started our "Best Of" series with a call for ice cream, that fun summer treat. You responded with some great choices, eventually leading to the crowning of Scoops in Scotch Plains as the king of the cones.

But now things are going to get serious.  We're asking you to tell us who makes the best pizza. Bar pies, thick crust. Sicilian. Secret sauce, perfect cheese blends, even sauce-to-cheese ratio; whatever criteria you use to determine the shop that gets your business. let us know who rates in your house. If you live 're a house divided, where some favor one house of pizza while others have their favorite, give us both names and we'll see if we can help solve the family dispute.

You know the drill. Take to the comments section, drop us a note on our Union County Facebook pages, tweet your allegiance, do anything you can to give our intrepid researchers a clue into the secret society of great Union County pizza makers. Do it fast, so we can have the results ready for your weekend tastings.

As always, please keep this a fair fight. We know how to tell when someone's stuffing the ballot box, so be honest. We're looking forward to crowning the next Union County champ...

Ralph, I agree with you, Joe's Drive In in Vauxhaul is the bet takeout pizza, and Sun Tavern is the best sitdown pizza with a beer to watch a game.

Hands down Saporito on Rt. 22 in Springfield. I can't even pick a favorite variety b/c they are all amazing, it just depends on what you are in the mood for. The thin crust pizza slice is large and so crispy. You know it is good when a slice with all the toppings does not even bend. Now that's the test of a good slice. The thick slices are also perfect proportion of crust to toppings so it does not feel like you are eating a dough ball. Mmmmm. My personal favorites are the Plain, Bruschetta, Old World and the Chicken with Pesto. If you like your meat toppings with a thick crust check out the Butcher Boy.

Joes in Vauxhall is amazing!
If you want a specialty Pizza like buffalo chicken you have to go to Saporito in Springfield, those are great but for some reason their plain pizza is surprisingly average.

JOLLY'S PIZZA ON MORRIS AVENUE IN SPRINGFIELD!!!! THE BEST! Have been going for old fashioned Italian pizza for years. Thin crust, lotsa cheese, not too overpriced. The best! I don't know why they named it Jolly's they should have named it something Italian. They are a family of Italians and it's a nice sit down place on the corner of Morris and Caldwell Place. But I usually just get take out. They have a great variety and use fresh ingridients. Love it. Hope they stay in biz forever. That and Larchmont Pizza are really good. But the people who work at Jolly's are much nicer and friendlier. That makes a big diff to me. Larchmont the guy acts like he hates your guts for coming in there. His staff do not act all that friendly either, but the food is good. Jolly's has the best pizza and staff though, hands down. CHECK IT OUT SPRINGFIELDERS and UNIONITES! Best Pizza in New Jersey by far!
