Candidates' Forum Today

Candidates face off for only public forum.

The two candidates running for the one open seat on Springfield's Township Committee will address and face questions from residents this morning.

The Springfield Chapter of Hadassah and Springfield Patriot Chamber of Commerce Candidates Morning Forum is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Springfield Public Library.

A non partisan moderator will chair the meeting. Audience members will not be abe to address candidates with spoken questions, but be pens and paper will be available for written questions. Queries must pertain to local matters and be addressed to a specific candidate.

Questions will be collected by volunteers from the Hadassah American Affairs Committee before the forum. Questions of a personal nature will not be permitted.

At the beginning of the program, each candidate will have an opportunity to introduce himself and share limited biographic information that could impact upon his performance as a member of the Springfield Township Committee.  In addition, candidates will also have an opportunity to present closing statements.  Dialogue will be strictly timed.

The organizers stressed in their announcement that the meeting is not a debate but rather a forum. As such, the candidates will not directly respond to each other’s statements and rebuttals.

This will be the only forum for the candidates before the Nov. 8 election; the evening session, normally held at Dayton, will not take place this year.

Since a small lunch will be served at the forum, non-Hadassah members who plan to attend are urged to contact Lorraine Seidel at 973.376.5067 or lrrse@aol.com.

Well if there isn't, I hope it would be recorded so we can watch it somehow.

Hey guys. First: the forum is at 11 a.m. Sorry I left that out of the original story. Secondly, no, evidently there will not be an evening forum this year. And lastly, as a rule, Patch doesn't endorse candidates.
