Lights, Camera, Prom!

All over Springfield, Jonathan Dayton students look to the stars for Prom guidance.

Jonathan Dayton’s 2011 Senior Prom was last night.  For those who attended,  the Prom may have been as close to a glamorous Hollywood premiere—a walk-the-red-carpet-type event—that they ever experienced.

In preparation for this once-in-a-lifetime event we noticed the local prom-goers checking out movies, television shows and the tabloids – all in search of perfect fashion, makeup and hair style tips.

So, this got us thinking about classic and glamorous Hollywood celebrities and other style archetypes. Whether it’s up and coming stars such as Ann Hathaway and Kim Kardashian or old school celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Heburn, as much as things change, they also stay the same. Check out Patch’s style stars of the past and their contemporary counterparts.

Da’ Bombshell: Every hair may not be in place, bra straps can be showing and her dress can be a bit bedraggled. But the bombshell still stops traffic every time with curve-hugging dresses are cut down to and slit up to ‘there’ leaving very little to the imagination. Past Stars: Marilyn Monroe, Liz Taylor, Sophia Loren, Raquel Welsh. Present Stars: Angelina Jolie, Kim Kardashian, Salma Hyeck, Sofia Vergara, Scarlett Johanson, Lindsay Lohan.

Sophisticated ladies: These best-dressed icons are always stylish whether wearing off-the-rack from J. Crew or sporting Chanel haute couture. Past Stars: Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, Grace Kelly. Present Stars: Ann Hathaway, Reese Witherspon, Michelle Obama, Katie Couric, Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey.

Rock star who rock it: Bizarre attire brings headlines, whether it’s a Lady Gaga “meat” dress or it’s see-through or looks like it’s from Minnie Mouse’s closet: Past Stars: Cher, Barbra Streisand, Madonna. Present Stars: Lady Gaga, Bjork, Katy Perry, Fergie, Pink.

They don’t care what you think – they’re fashion forward: Just a bit ahead of the curve, these trend setters don’t care if they look a little, well, weird, because they are quite confident that their looks will hit the mainstream in just a matter of time. Past Stars: Diane Keaton, Faye Dunaway. Present Stars: Olsen twins, Chloe Sevigny, Sarah Jessica Parker, Selma Blair, Gwen Stefani.

The pretty princess: Think poofy pink skirts and tiaras. Every little girl wants to be a princess when she’s seven. Most of us grow out of it, but there are plenty of big girls who still love the Disney archetype. Past Stars: Lady Di, Grace Kelly, Merle Oberon. Present Stars: Kate Middleton, Carey Mulligan, Julia Roberts, Kiera Knightly, Gwyneth Paltrow.

Androgynous glamour: These female stars can really rock men’s clothes – being a strong woman doesn’t necessarily indicate one sexual preference or another - but these stars definitely raise some intriguing questions. Past Stars: Marlene Deitrich, Katharine Hepburn, Greta Garbo, Present Stars: Tilda Swinson, Ellen DeGeneres, Samantha Ronson.

Present Stars: Kate Hudson, Vanessa Hugdens, Annasophia Robb , Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Anniston, Sandra Bullock.

Supermodel: The easiest way to search for style is to page through a magazine. It might not be possible to completely match a supermodel’s style, but hairstyles, makeup, clothing and shoes are meant to be studied and interpreted. Past Stars: Lauren Hutton, Cybill Shepherd, Twiggy, Cindy Crawford, Christie Brinkley. Present Stars: Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks, Kate Moss, Bar Rafieli, Naomi Campbell, Iman.

Present Stars: Snooki, Teresa or Ashley from Real Housewives of NJ; Olivia, Tracey or Gigi from Jerseylicious.
