Mayor Keffer Releases New Hurricane Irene Update

JCP&L helicopters will be overhead; boiling water alert is still in effect.

Union County Office of Emergency Management reports that Springfield along with Cranford and Rahway sustained the most damage due to flooding of the Rahway River.

While the state of emergency has been lifted, all travelers are again cautioned to watch for flooded streets and fallen tree branches. JCP&L will be conducting aerial surveillance of its infrastructure today. You will see a low flying helicopter with black and orange stripes and tail number N50AP.

Should you have questions regarding the helicopter or regarding your power service, you may contact JCP&L at (973) 401-8242. The Springfield Public Library will be closed today due to flooding. We will report damage to library materials in a later posting.

The boil water alert continues for customers of New Jersey American Water Company. In addition, some residents are experiencing low or no water pressure. Even if the water pressure is restored, customers must boil water and conserve water use until further notice. Hugh A. Keffer,

Laura, the Township will be picking tree branches, limbs, etc. that are the result of this past weekend’s storm. This will take place after the removal of other hazards. In the meantime, pile any fallen limbs near the edge of your property, but not in the street. We need to keep the street cleared of large debris. Thanks Marc

As a resident of Marion Ave., I would like to know where all of the committee members and/or Mayor were today to show their support to the residents who are affected by the hurricane? If any of them did come they did not make their presence known to any of us involved.
