Official Election Results Put Bandrowski Over Fernandez by Five Votes
Both Democrats in race win seats.
According to the official count of Springfield's ballots by Union County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi, Margaret Bandrowski has edged ahead of incumbent Jerry Fernandez by five votes.
The final tally shows victories for the two Democrats in the race for the two open seats on the township committee, David Barnett and Margaret Bandrowski. The two incumbent Republicans, Marc Krauss and Jerry Fernandez, fell short of the votes needed to attain second terms.
With Barnett and Bandrowski on the Committee, Springfield Democrats have a four to one majority. The only remaining Republican on the committee is current Mayor Ziad Shehady.
The race was close and drawn out due to voting complications caused by tropical storm Sandy. Unofficial numbers had given Bandrowski a one-vote edge. Fernandez has the legal right to call for a recount; it is not known if he will at this time.
In the final tally, Barnett garnered the most votes overall, with 3261. His running mate Bandrowski officially received 3208. Jerry Fernandez received 3203 and his fellow Republican Marc Krauss received 3076.

Congratulations to David and Margaret. And thank you to Jerry and Marc. Regardless of the fact that I don't often agree with you, I do feel your hearts were in the right place.

The hoops are never going back up. Learn to live with the half court or get off your lazy butt and go play at Irwin if you want a full court game.

Congratulations to everyone for being so involved with the town of Springfield. I wish to state that I hope both parties can find a way to coexist in 2013 as in 2012 the township commitee was in my opinion not run with the democracy that this great country is based on as many citizens if they disagreed with the mayor often got ignored & i felt many citizens were not treated very fairly at TC meetings.
I assume in 2013 with 2 new members that the people who pay taxes can speak without fear as I dont always agree with what gets done in town & I want to be able to say how I feel regardless of which party is in charge. Ill still be very active by attending as many meetings as I can. I also want to wish the families of everyone on the current township committee & incoming new members a very happy & healthy holiday season.
