This is another example of why both the Springfield FD and First Aid Squad are such valuable assets to our town.

Duh! These services are valuable across the board, across the state and the nation. That is why every town, city and community has one. No one argues about that, you call 911 and help always arrives. But, once in a while, management and adminstraton screws up, and unfortunately, when there is an actually structure fire, the Fire department shows up but they are one firefighter short and they have to watch a building burn down because procedures and regulations for their safety have to be enforced.

I hope that's an appreciative 'Duh" because the people who are involved in Springfields paid public safety, the FD and PD, as well as all the volunteers in the Springfield First Aid Squad deserve our appreciation.
As for the FD being short staffed, I have always been very clear about my opinion that public safety is the most important service a town can provide and have been supportive of increasing the FD so that situations like the one you mentioned don't occur. Unfortunately while I was on the TC that opinion was in the minority.

My point is, no one says anything negative about the peope who serve in this vital departments. I just can't stand the fact that political individuals use these types of media to earn "brownie" points for their personal gain. Nothing personal, but it is tiring seeing people like you frequently saying stuff like this when the whole community feels the same and no one has ever said anything different. I always make the effort to shake their hands and personally thank them, as well as teach my kids the same, including military personnel. I am sure these individuals apprecaite it more that way then here.

Unfortunately people do make negative comments about these vital areas and not enough praise is given to them. But I do understand what you mean about brownie points.

Thanks to our brave crew and the risk they take doing what they do.
