Springfield Police: All Township Roads Passable and all Traffic Lights Operational
Springfield PD will increase patrols in areas without power.
In a mid afternoon update, Springfield police said that all of the Township's traffic lights are working and that police no longer need to direct traffic on any Springfield roads.
"There are no road closures which require police personnel to divert traffic due to streets that are completely blocked by down trees or live power lines," Detective Sgt. Judd Levenson of the Springfield Police Department said in an email.
A major power line carrying 100 volts came down on Saturday at Mountain Avenue and Shunpike, causing street closures in that area.
Levenson said that there would be a larger than normal amount of officers patrolling the streets this evening, due to Halloween. In addition, he said the additional frequency of patrolling would continue in all residential streets with power outages until power is restored.

That is completely inaccurate! Highlands absolutely need more vigilance from police! It is a war zone! If the roads are so passable as the police says, why then were all the buses cancelled until further notice for the top? If there roads are passable, and there is no danger and no police required, then we demand Mr. Davino to send the buses up to get our children to school! Greenhill has so many powerlines down that is almost impossible to navigate without swirving! Please, get real, no one is doing as much as they should to help us... it is the 'talk' 'talk' 'talk' that is going on, without the 'action' 'action' 'action' that we need! Why is a huge sign on Mt. View telling people that road is CLOSED? Oh, let me see... police put it there!

Hey Doug,
You know, it's funny. I spent about two hours yesterday taking pictures of downed power lines and other road hazards and I said to myself at the end of it "I'll bet nobody is even going to notice." So my little self pitying prophecy came to pass, huh? Those photos are here: http://springfield.patch.com/articles/downed-wires-and-caution-tape-mark-top-of-springfield
Also, I'm pretty sure the sign on Mt View says "closed to thru traffic," not just "closed." And the police aren't claiming that no roads are closed; they are saying police no longer need to direct traffic away from dangerous areas.
Anyway. I don't want to sound defensive. Thanks, as always, for reading, and for keeping me on my toes. -AB

The police will put a sign saying road closed to thru traffic up so that they can ticket people who are just gawking and don't belong there. As someone whose home and neighborhood was destroyed from Irene, I can tell you that those signs do work
