Springfield Resident Named President of Union County College

Dr. Margaret M. McMenamin is eighth president of college.

Dr. Margaret M. McMenamin of Springfield has been named the eighth president of Union County College. 

In a ceremony on April 14, Dr. McMenamin was sworn in by Judge James Hely of the Union County Superior Court. McMenamin is the college's first female president.

Among the notables attending were State Senator Raymond Lesniak, Senator Thomas Kean, Jr., Assemblyman Jon Bramnick, Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz, Union County Freeholder Chairman Deborah Scanlon, Union County Freeholder Angel Estrada, Union County Freeholder Bette Jane Kowalski, Union County Freeholder Daniel Sullivan, Elizabeth City Councilman Manny Grova and Union County Prosecutor Ted Romankow.

McMenamin's brother Stephen, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Hawaiian Electric Company, gave the keynote address.

Dr. McMenamin holds an M.S. from the University of Scranton and a Doctorate from Lehigh University. She has previously worked at senior administrative positions at Lehigh Carbon Community College in Schnecksville, PA, and Brookdale Community College, the County College of Monmouth, in Lincroft, NJ.

McMenamin joined Union County College in July 2010. A press release from the school lists lauded her work with student services and improving advising and counseling, partnering with faculty to improve teaching and learning, and engaging the entire campus community in the process of mission review to renew their collective commitment to student success.
