Springfield to Hold Late Halloween Celebration

Township will celebrate holiday on Nov. 17

After twice being pushed back by Hurricane Sandy and its fallout, Springfield is finally getting a chance to celebrate Halloween.

At the Nov. 13 Township Committee meeting, officials announced that Halloween activities, including trick 'r' treating, will be observed on Saturday, Nov. 17.

Springfield residents were warned by officials and public safety professionals that due to widespread lack of power throughout town and with many roads rendered extremely hazardous by fallout from the storm, Halloween could not be observed on Oct. 31. Similar conditions prevented the back-up date, Nov. 5, from being usable either. This is the second year in a row weather delayed Halloween activities. In 2011, unexpected snowfall in October created unsafe conditions for the Holiday.

This year, several families and communities held their own impromptu celebrations

Jim,

I'm assuming you don't have kids? Kids who were traumatized by the storm (It wasn't a Hurricane when it hit Springfield) for whom getting things back to normal is extremely important? Kids look forward to Halloween, by giving them a late celebration, they don't feel like something was taken away from them, when THEY did nothing wrong.

Anything thats normal is always good especially for the kids. I agree with shane on this. If you dont want to partake in the celebration you dont have to. I happen to have plans doing a sing along as part of the recovery efforts this afternoon so i am sorry i wont be home to enjoy it.
