Santa is coming to town today.
The annual municipal tree lighting ceremony is tonight. The tree lighting will again be held outside town hall at Town Hall Lawn and North Trivett Avenue.
Santa Claus will again come to town to make himself available to children following a daredevil descent from the municipal building’s roof via a fire engine ladder. In addition, the afternoon will have hayrides, a petting zoo and an edible craft tables for children.
And for those looking to give, local charity Springfield H.O.P.E will be collecting new unwrapped toys and Barnes and Noble gift cards.

If you’re talking about setting up something on a town square, why do you want to leave people out? I mean, don’t you want other people to join you in joy? Why are you excluding other people?

Of course everyone is invited to attend..why wouldn't a Jewish resident want to attenda tree lighting ceremony, sit on santa clause's lap and listen to christmas songs..How would a Jewish parent explain that to his children. "We are welcome, but thisn't our holiday." but daddy, "why don't they put up a menorah? Answer that one. anyone???

All those Jewish families were probably saying wouldn't it be nice to have a menorah up.

With all due respect B Freeman, actions speak louder than words. If you would like to have other faiths equally represented, may I suggest that you lobby your fellow residents of all faiths through petition and the town council for a Menorah to be placed on the town square and make recommendations as to when and how it should be lit with the guidance of the many syngogues in the town. I'm sure an invitation to all town residents would be widely embraced.

Less complaining and more action. Personally it doesn't bother me as someone who takes part in both holidays but when my son gets older, I plan on taking him there. It looked like fun and something to bring the town together and just leave it at that.
