Springfield Week in Review

A look back at the notable goings on in Springfield.

Troy Village Apartment houses were without power and a car was crushed a domino-like series of events on Tuesday, August 7. A tree landed on a nearby power line, which subsequently pulled down a utility poll, which in turn crashed into a parked car. No one was hurt in the incident. Jersey Central Power & Light crews were called to the scene to repair the poll. Springfield Auxiliary police officers stationed at the accident site said the tree fell down on its own and ascribed the break to rot. Neighbors questioned the rot as a cause, noting that the full-grown tree had been uprooted and the recent stormy weather.

Springfield hosted Union County's National Night Out Event on Tuesday, August 7. Law enforcement and public safety agencies from Springfield and surrounding towns displayed their top gear for the families in attendance. Union County employees offered refreshments and prizes sponsored by local businesses.

The Springfield Government announced the completion of a comprehensive overhaul of playground equipment in all town parks, including a new playground at the community pool. Springfield Township Administrator Anthony Cancro told Patch that with the changes, the playground equipment is handicapped accessible, meeting all state and national requirements.
