What Should Go Here: The Former Sixth Ave. Electronics

The once might electronics retailer stands empty after December fire sale.

In December, Sixth Ave. Electronics turned off its lights following a long series of legal battles over debts. Sixth Ave. once had 20 locations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Dwindling business had the chain whittle down its number of stores until only the Route 22 location, which served as the company’s headquarters and main warehouse space, was left.

The space is massive, incorporating not only a cavernous show room but a docking area and warehouse as well. It’s surrounded by robust commerce on Route 22, but filling a space that size might be tricky.

What are your thoughts, Springfield? Let us know in the comments.

Lowes already exists on rt 22 in union just 4 or 5 miles up the road. traffic stinks already on rt 22. I know this wont change it either way but if they want to make the best out of the space put in yet another strip mall. I know there re lots of them on rt 22 as well but maybe a few stores would bring in more tax $$$ to springfield. if not that then a huge restaurant something thats not already in union. just some thoughts.

I agree! I'd hate to see it flounder like the old Saks in Millburn. Seems like it could be a good site for a Wegman's.

LET "SUPERMAYOR" SHEHADY HANDLE IT! HE CAN DO IT ALL BY HIMSELF, DO THINGS AND TRY TO KEEP THEM SECRET FROM THE RESIDENTS. MAYBE HE WILL HAVE A NEW FOOTBALL FIELD BUILT THERE(INSTEAD OF WORKING W/THE CTY. TO HAVE THE MEISEL FIELD TURFED, WIDEN THE RD. TO THE FIELDHOUSE SO BLEACHERS CAN BE PUT IN AND EITHER REMODEL OR REPLACE THE FIELDHOUSE. IN THE END, THIS WOULD SAVE A LOT OF $$!). BUT "SUPERMAYOR WILL SAVE THE DAY. HE IS A LEDGENED IN HIS OWN MIND!!

Lou, Have you spoken with the County and have some first hand knowledge that no one else has that they are willing to make upgrades at Miesel Field? Some of us have spoken with them and they have no intentions of making the necessary changes. Should Springfield sit around and wait, in hopes that someone comes and takes care of town for us? Springfield needs to move forward, and the turf field is a big part of that.

We love you Lou. And what about the voice message he left today on everyones phone about the notification system. The county freeholders did this for all of Union county last year but I guess he wants the credit.

Actually, what the County put in place was an OPT-IN notification system. What Springfield has put in place much more appropriate for use in true emergencies as it does not require an OPT-IN and is in the townships control.
