Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Who Makes The Best Pizza in Town?

It's a tough call, but you have your favorites. So vote your conscience and tell us what makes your favorite pizza joint the best in the land.

A quick lunch to get you through the afternoon. The perfect after-school snack. Dinner for a busy family. Pizza is all of that for most people. But in New Jersey, pizza is a saucy, cheesy dietary staple, a slice of life.

We munch freely, connoisseurs of carbs, gleefully seeking out the perfect slice or pie. Once we find our favorites, we are steadfast in touting the merits of our chosen pizza-makers.

But is it the crust, the toppings, the cheese-to-sauce ratio, or something else that makes you love your pizza? Starting this morning, Patch is asking you to show us your true colors. We know you've got favorites and we want you to wave the flag in support of the pizza-maker you can't do without.

As the kick-off to our regular "Best Of" features, we're starting with pizza. So, you'll see this story anchored to your Patch home page. Our requests are simple:

  • Cast your ballot.
  • Tell your friends, family, acquaintances, co-workers, doctors, letter carriers and anyone else you know to do the same.
  • Use our comment tool to tell us what makes your favorite the best. Is the secret in the sauce, is it the crumbled sausage instead of the sliced, or is it the creative pairings on some of their specialty pies?

We will leave this poll on the home page until noon Friday — giving you plenty of time for "research." Your options are as follows:

We will be doing our own taste-testing throughout the week and making mentions of what we find in town. Once the final ballot is cast, we will tabulate the votes and announce the winner at 6 p.m. Friday, just in time for that week-ending dinner order — and bragging rights!

This is democracy in its truest form. Your vote counts, so thanks in advance for doing your duty and voting your culinary conscience! See you Friday!

Saporito in a landslide. Honestly the rest of the pizza in this town is mediocre at best. I would rather risk my life driving on Route 22 for Saporito Pizza knowing it is going to be fantastic every time out. There selection is plentiful and there staff and prices cannot be beat.

they arent always fresh some of the slices sit but thats with any pizza place. when u get a whole pie u know its always good so ill give u that but i also like jollys a touch more. they are almost a tie to me. jollys is more of an old school 1960's type pizza place and i still like tradition.

There isn't any really good pizza in this town, just varying degrees of mediocrity. If you lived in places with good pizza, you'd know what I mean.

Jolly's is a joke, they are nasty people. The pizza was good but since they started treating the customers so poorly I can't really give an appraisal. Saporito? Really? Come on NJ, get real. Their sauce tastes like canned tomato soup. Stick with Prima, great crust, super sauce.

Joe's (Summit) is better than all the above. Even better than that is Nonna's in Florham Park!

Jolly's nasty? Are you kidding me? Who in Jolly's is nasty? They are the nicest group of people ever. They make all their ingredients fresh, and are always upbeat and remember you. They have been in business there forever. They are an Italian pizzeria and it tastes it. I have never had a bad pie from them. OK, once the stuff slid off the dough but that was the delivery guys fault, not Jolly's. And they were so nice about replacing it too... I doubt I would be in such good spirits if I worked in a hot room making pizza all day. But these guys are always in a good mood and have excellent pizza too. I lived in NY, visit many times. Out of NY and the several places I've lived in NJ, Jolly's is always the best. If I have to move again, I will go out of my way to get there. Their pies are THAT GOOD!
