Submissions Wanted for Union County Senior Citizens Art Exhibit

First place winners in all categories go on to compete in September at the New Jersey State Senior Citizens Art Show in East Windsor.

This release was received from the Union County Press Office. Residents of Union County who are 60 years of age or older are invited to participate and exhibit an original work of art – completed within the last three years – in the annual Union County Senior Citizens Art Exhibit. Sponsored by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, the exhibit is open to entrants who are either amateur/non-professional or professional in status. “While the exhibit itself begins in June, this invitation to participate gives artists time to prepare their artwork to be included in the exhibit,” said Freeholder Bette Jane Kowalski, liaison to the Cultural and Heritage Programs Advisory Board. “The artwork …

Emmy Winning Dayton Grad Up for Big Brain Award

Justin Katz, motion designer, creative director and producer at Flock of Pixels, is one of three finalists in the Design category.

Jonathan Dayton class of 2000 graduate Justin Katz is on a winning streak. With five Emmy Awards already under his belt, the 30-year-old motion design director, producer and editor at Flock of Pixels is a finalist in the Design category for the 2013 Big Brain Award, according to Phoenix New Times.com. Katz, who holds degree in film and animation from the Rochester Institute of Technology, told Phoenix New Times that his interest in animation began in early childhood.  "I'm pretty sure I made a South Park version of Macbeth for my high school English class," he recalled in the blog. "I would do all different kinds of stop motion on Post-it notes." He is also listed at the top of the Phoenix New Times' "Top 100 Creatives of 2012" and boasts …

Check Out A Free 'Triple Play' at Union College This Week

The local college theater will present three one-act plays later this week. Admission is free.

The following press release was submitted by the Union County College Press Office. The Spring Theater production, “Triple Play,” at Union County College features three one-act plays written by members of the College’s faculty and staff. The productions will be performed by Union County College students. After each performance, the audience is invited to ask questions of the playwrights. The first play, “A Night at the Underground Railroad,” is a historic drama and was written by Michael Catalano, a member of the College’s Information Technology staff. The second play is “Firebird,” a serious comedy about the unlikely interactions between a professor and a student that takes some unexpected twists and turns. It was written by renowned …

'Visions Within' Continues at Springfield Library

The exhibition by artist Boltaire V. Cruz continues at the Donald B. Palmer Museum at the Springfield Free Public Library through May 1.

Aspiring artist Boltaire V. Cruz is having his first solo painting exhibition entitled Visions Within at the Donald B. Palmer Museum at the Springfield Free Public Library. The show will be displaying his collection of acrylic and oil paintings that features alluring women, who despite their beauty, embrace a lingering sadness within. These paintings represent as illustrative metaphor of his journey as an artist for the past three years. The show runs through May 1, 2013. The Donald B.
