Fall Yard Maintenance

When the leaves change colors, it can be quite a beautiful sight to behold. When the leaves start falling off the trees then they become an annoyance. The kids may love to jump in the big piles of leaves but it can be quite strenuous to gather those piles and bag them up for the garbage men. You don’t want piles of leaves to become a liability claim on your homeowner’s policy. Leaves can cause damage to your lawn or block drains and gutters.

LEAF COLLECTION IN SPRINGFIELD:

April 3rd through October 26th leaves may be placed with grass clippings and dropped off at the Department of Public Works garage located at 54 Center Street. The specific days the clippings may be dropped off are Tuesday and Friday of each week, 7:00 am through 9:00 am.

Beginning October 27th, leaves may be placed in the curb for collection. Leaves can be placed in the curb areas loose or in paper recyclable bags. DPW will begin collection on October 29. Call the Department (973-912-2225) for information on which sections they will begin collection in and when they will be in your area.

PLEASE NOTE: THE DPW CAN NOT ACCEPT ANY MATERIALS IN PLASTIC BAGS

Leaves are left for months, creating traffic hazards and potentially harboring places for animals to nest. When contacted, the DPW always has the same answer and nothing ever changes. I believe if the job cannot be done on a regular basis, without the need for overtime, then the Township should consider looking for outside resources to aid with the maintenance of our streets. Residents have to follow strict ordinances and keep their properties clear of debris why shouldn't the DPW be accountable as well for our roads?

Very True Chrys, especially now with all the extra tree limbs everywhere. We can't afford for them to be hanging around for the next few weeks into winter. Thanks for your comment.
