5th Grade Boys Jr. Dawgs Lose First Game

5th Grade Jr. Dawgs Lose to New Providence But Bounce Back to Stop Summit

In what would be their biggest challenge this season, in GSBL league play, the (7-0) Springfield Dawgs hosted the (6-1) New Providence .   As in the past seasons when these two teams have played, the two teams exchanged leads throughout. What was a tie game going into the 4th quarter, big free throws by New Providence's Jeffrey Procopia and Springfield's poor foul shooting (5 for 22), put the game away for the visitors 32-27. Springfield was lead by Anthony Corigliano (8 points) and Mike Kanarek (6 points) in the loss.   With only two days to come back from their first loss - Springfield seemed to be on their game, as they hosted a tough team from Summit.  Leading from start to finish, the Jr Dawgs used a 15 point 2nd quarter to put the game away as they rolled to a 41-22 victory. Kanarek (8 points) and Corigliano (7 points) again lead the way but received plenty of help - Zach Abramovitz (6 points),Brandon Doren (5 points), Mark Cunningham (4 points), Jeremy Greiss, Aiden Forys, Anthony Apicella, Cole McTeran, Daniel Munoz, Dave Ares, and Jack Wolcott all chipped in with a basket as well.  Next Thursday, the Jr. Dawgs will travel to face an 8-0  Long Hill Township team.
