Speeding Through Neighborhood an Ongoing Problem, Resident Says

Motorists are using cell phones and driving on the wrong side of the road, homeowner says.

At Tuesday's Springfield Township committee meeting, a resident said speeding in his neighborhood is an ongoing problem.

Not only are motorists racing down Meisel Avenue, he said, but then frequently cut down Riverside Drive and turn onto Washington Avenue. Many of those drivers are using cell phones and driving on the wrong side of the road coming out of the turn, he added.

The resident said he has seen "very little law enforcement" in the neighborhood and suggested that speed bumps, as were placed on Tooker Avenue earlier this year, could be a possible solution.

"It's a very dangerous corner," he said. "(Drivers) continue on Washington Avenue as if it's the Indianapolis raceway."

Adding that it's a hazard to those backing out of their driveways as well as children playing in the neighborhood, the resident stressed the need for improved safety conditions in the area.
