Barnes and Noble Had Hit, Problems, With Nook

The bookstore chain's ebook reader was sold out before Christmas and reportedly had difficulties downloading content when it arrived.

Anyone who visited the Rte. 22 Barnes & Noble  over the last couple of months would have been hard pressed to miss the display for the chain's ebook reader the Nook. From about Thanksgiving on, there has been a stand near the store's entrance where employees could field question on Barnes & Noble's answer to the
Kindle.

It looks like the promotion worked too well. According to a number of news articles, the Nook was sold out before Christmas, and some late orders will not be received until February.

But even the Nooks that arrived in time for Christmas caused their new owners grief. According to the gadget blog Gadgetell, Nook purchasers were unable to download books on Christmas day. The problem seems to have been resolved, but that comes after seven pages of complaints on a Barnes & Noble forum.
