Farmers' Market Opens Today

Vendors' wares range from hot sauce to fresh produce.

Starting today, summertime Mondays will get a lot tastier.

The Springfield Farmers market opens for business today from noon to 6 p.m. Located in the Dayton parking lot during July and August, the market moves to Ruby Park when school reopens in September. In addition to farmers' market staples like fruit and vegetables, Springfield residents can pick up bread, cheese nuts and more.

Alstede Farms, a large operation that travels to a large number of state farmers' markets, returns this year, offering produce ranging from apricots to zucchini . County Stand Farms will also offer fresh vegetables and produce.

Joining them with cold and tasty fare are Italian Ices of NJ. Stanhope, NJ-based Down to the Bone Barbeque will serve up prepared foods and sell their signature "Mild Madness" and "Sweet Heat" sauces.

They won't be the only sauce source: Defcon Sauces will also be offering their signature line of buffalo wing sauces, including their DeathMatch Mark II wing sauce which according to their website, "ranks in at a scorching 500,000+ Scoville units." We don't know what that means, but along with the warning that it shouldn't be used "straight on wings," we feel its safe to believe it's terrifying (they have milder sauces as well).

Less spicy but equally delicious, the Gourmet Exchange offers infused cooking oils ranging from Rosemary Fleur de Sel to Herbed Garlic Oreganata.
