Ice Hut Seeks Buyer Ahead of Friday Closing

Springfield residents Pam and Matt Klein never imagined that they'd receive the outpouring of support that's come their way since announcing Monday that their Mountain Avenue side-business, The Ice Hut, is closing. 

"It's so heartwarming," said Pam, who also works as a special education teacher. "It's been absolutely amazing and it really seems like The Ice Hut is going to be missed by the Springfield community."

Since breaking the news on the shop's Facebook wall, the couple has been inundated with emails and comments from loyal patrons who are sorry to see the store close.

More than just a dessert destination, Pam told Patch in July that the shop often served as a home-away-from-home for kids who stopped in after school to get started on homework or catch up with friends. The Kleins also used their business to support the community and the charitable efforts of their neighbors. 

While managing the shop for the past two-and-a-half years was a great experience, the couple, with young children and separate, full-time careers, came to the decision that it was time to sell the business.

"We each have other jobs," Pam explained. "The business basically runs itself, but you still need to be there."

Following the overwhelming response from the Springfield community, the Kleins said they are willing to serve as consultants should a new buyer come forward who would like to purchase the business, including the equipment, furniture and fixtures, and continue to run it. 

"We would definitely love to see The Ice Hut remain part of the community and we would certainly help anyone interested get started. After reading all the comments, there's no reason it can't continue if someone else is interested," Pam said.
