The Paper Mill Playhouse has opened the doors to its own bar and bistro for guests to enjoy before or after plays—or just for another dining option steps away from downtown Millburn.
The Carriage House is open Wednesday to Sunday 4:30 to 10 p.m. It is also open for brunch on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well as before most performances. The restaurant seats 60 people.
"Everyone that's been here said they loved it," chef Holly Guber said. "People have been coming out from around the neighborhood for brunch also."
The Carriage House's soft opening was during "The Sound of Music." During "Chorus Line" it opened but only before and after shows.
On Friday nights, jazz bands perform acoustically in the bar from 6 to 9 p.m. In January the Carriage house scheduled:
- Jan. 11 - Jordan Piper, Adrian Moring
- Jan. 18 - Benny Harrison, Karl Cochran
- Jan. 25 - Steve Myerson, J Brunka
The menu offers small plates with a wide variety from Gingered Veal Wontons to Artisanal cheeses, fruit and crackers priced from $10 to $15.
Its larger plates start at $22 with boneless chicken breast and sweet potato hash with chicken sausage and chestnuts in an apple-bourbon sauce. The menu also features Angus strip steak, veal, salmon and duck dishes.
