Trader Joe's Opening Friday

Store is taking applications, but will not sell wine.

The much-anticipated opening of Trader Joe's in Millburn, just blocks from Springfield up Millburn Avenue, is near.

According to the company's Web site, the store is scheduled to open on Friday. Workers were installing the sign at the store on Millburn Avenue on Monday. The store will open in the former location of Whole Foods, which closed a year ago to move a few blocks east into a huge new store in Union.

Unlike the Westfield Trader Joe's, however, the Millburn store does not have a license to sell liquor, so no bottles of "2-buck Chuck," the company's fabled $2 bottle of wine (the official name of the house brand is Charles Williams and it now retails for $2.99).

Company officials opened a trailer at the end of September to take applications for people to work in the new store. There is still a job posting on the Trader Joe's Web site for part-time positions.
