Road Improvement Project Update

2012 Road Improvements

Infrastructure improvements are vital to maintaining a strong quality of life and appearance to our neighborhoods. This year's road repair and improvement projects began in late April and will continue throughout the summer into early fall.

Phase I of the road improvement projects was completed on July 13th. The road improvement consisted of new storm drain lines, curbing (where needed) milling and paving. The following roads were completed: Berkeley Road, Midvale Drive, Fieldstone Drive, Mapes Avenue, Owaissa Avenue, Lynn Drive and Vista Way.

Phase II begins next week on Wabeno Ave with a $205,000 from a State funded grant that was awarded to Springfield from NJDOT. This project is expected to last about four weeks with an expected completion date of August 15th.

Phase III - A special Township Committee meeting will be held August 6th at 7pm for the purpose of awarding the final road and other project contracts. This will allow projects to begin as soon as possible with road work completed in the early fall. The roads to be improved are: Garden Oval, Littlebrook Road, Warner Avenue, Alden Road and Cain Street from Meisel Avenue to S. Maple Avenue.

Other projects include dike repairs near Marion Ave and Washington Ave also to begin in August and the recent completion of the Springfield Free Public Library and First Aid Squad parking lot. This lot frees up parking spaces in front of town hall and creates dedicated parking spaces for library patrons.
