Blast from the Past: Steve Carell Visits Springfield
Comedian reports on town's 'reading epidemic.'
The year was 2000, the craze was J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter.
Acting as a correspondent for Comedy Central's The Daily Show, comedian Steve Carell filmed a report on location from Springfield, crafting a fictious story about what he called the epidemic seducing the town's youth: reading.
Carell's segment featured interviews with local figures including former mayor Clara Harelik and orthodontist Lee Kaswiner, as well as familiar sights around town.
