CUT OFF!: Springfield Levees Topped

Washington Avenue Residents Stranded

For the first time in this reporter’s 50-plus years of life experience, the levees bordering Washington Park and Riverside Drive have been topped by flood waters from the Rahway River.

Access to Morris Avenue is cut off by flood waters overflowing both sides of the Morris Avenue Rahway River Bridge, effectively cutting off access to Springfield and Union.

Residents have expressed amazement at the amount of water covering the park and pouring over the levee in several locations.  Several homes at both ends of the street have experienced basement flooding and are concerned about when the crest of the flood will occur.
