Five Things You Need to Know Today: Aug. 31

Storm clean-up news and safety precautions

  1. Don't touch any electrical wires that have fallen to the ground: Even if you are without power, don't assume that the electrical wires outside your home are dead–or you might be.
  2. Put your branches and storm debris on the curb. The Township has arranged for special refuse pick ups this week.
  3. Many Springfield homes are experiencing water service problems. Some taps are not pouring water at all and others very weak pressure. A  is still in effect.
  4. The Springfield Fire Department is helping residents with flooded basements. Call 973-912-2265 to request pumping assistance.
  5.  If any mold at all forms in your home, do not turn on the air conditioning until the mold is gone and the air conditioning system has been checked by a professional. Otherwise, you run the risk of spreading mold spores throughout your entire home.
