Five Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 15

Grocery store closing, maps, charity and more.

  1. A reader tipped us off to this and a phone call to the store confirmed it: on Morris Ave. is closing at the end of the month. We'll be reporting more on this as information comes in.
  2. Have you guys seen the interactive map of Springfield on the township's website? It's both functional and fun.
  3. With this week's low as you can go temperatures, take some time to remember those left out in the cold. On Sunday, Dec. 12, at 12 p.m., some of New Jersey's finest musicians will perform for the 5th Annual Blank-Fest to raise blankets and coats for the homeless at the Crossroads, 78 North Avenue, Garwood, NJ. The suggested price of admission, for this "noon 'til closing" benefit concert, is a blanket although coats and cash donations will also be accepted.
  4. Holiday shopping have you stressed out? The Community Conference of Springfield Schools' Parent Groups offers a way to help that lets you help Dayton students at the same time. Today, visit www.pamperedchef.biz/michellelamkin. Click on "order products" in the lower left hand corner and then type in Jonathan Dayton H.S. under hosts/organization name. Twenty five percent of sales will go towards the Project Graduation Class of 2011 fund.
  5. Physician and author Dr. Robert Goldberg appears at Barnes and Noble on Route 22 on Thursday to talk about his book "Tabloid Medicine: How the Internet is Being Used to Hijack Medical Science for Fear and Profit."
