Mayor Keffer Releases Hurricane Irene Update for Monday Night

New Jersey American Water Company working to restore water service.

This is a quick note to let you know where some things stand around town.

New Jersey American Water Company will be performing some work on Morris Ave tonight and tomorrow in an effort to restore water service to those who have experienced low pressure or no water.  They will be laying pipe on Morris Ave in Springfield and setting up a mobile pressure booster station on Morris Avenue in Union. The company continues to advise its customers to boil water before drinking it.

The Colonial Crossroads Red Cross reports the hurricane required a greater response than all of their pre-planning anticipated. Well over 13,000 people needed help from the Red Cross statewide. The State has authorized Springfield to waive all fees for permits for work done to rebuild in the wake of the hurricane. The waiver represents is a small way of continuing to help residents as they rebuild. We are negotiating with our trash hauler to have a bulk garbage and hurricane damage pick up at curbside.

Our regular quarterly pick up is scheduled for the end of September. It would be a great help to have an earlier pick up at no additional cost to residents.  Fallen trees remain a significant impediment to travel around town.

Please be alert and drive safely.
