National Weather Service Warns of Flooding in Rahway River in Springfield

Water just hitting the flood point.

The National weather service in Upton, NY has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for rapid river rises in Union County and elsewhere.

The warning specifically mentions that the Rahway River in Springfield will flood. The report states that the flooding will be minor, just touching the “flood stage” of 5.5 feet, with water levels dropping later this afternoon.

 The flood warning entails inconveniences, not danger. Property damage is expected to be minimal.

 The Rahway river has widened in several points in Springfield, flooding the soccer fields off of Meisel Ave. and the Rahway River County park on the Union/Springfield border. However, with the rain tapering off it seems unlikely that the water will rise further.
