Power Outage in Springfield, Parts of Summit and Elsewhere

Power goes out on the first day of weeklong heat-wave.

UPDATE: We have reports that the power went back on in some parts of Springfield sometime around 3:20. 

There are multiple reports of power loss throughout Springfield and neighboring towns. Officials believe they have found the cause of the problem and say that power should return later this afternoon. 

Lights have gone off in most of Springfield as well as parts of Summit. In a message on his Facebook page and his Twitter account, Springfield Mayor Ziad Shehady said the power outage was "due to 'lockout' from overheating at Trainer sub-station in Chatham serving Springfield.

He said that Jersey Central Power & Light Company estimate that the power will return at approximately 3:30 p.m. today. Shehady said the Office Of Emergency Management, Police and Fire departments are controlling the situation.

Parts of Summit, Short Hills and Chatham are reporting outages. Emergency communications report that Overlook Hospital is running on limited power. According to reports, more than 10,000 JCP&L customers are without power.
