Release: AAA To Host Blood Drive

The auto club's route 22 location is seeking donors in early May

The AAA New Jersey Automobile Club and New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS) will host a blood drive at AAA's Springfield office on Friday, May 7 from 11 am. to 5 p.m.  Donors will receive a special gift.

According to NJBS, a division of the New York Blood Center (NYBC), blood supplies in area hospitals remain low, causing an urgent need in securing blood and platelet donations.  New Jersey Blood Services supports 60 hospitals throughout New Jersey, providing them with much-needed blood products and services.

NJBS estimates that approximately 120,000 volunteers are needed annually to donate blood for the nearly four million patients who require life-saving blood and/or platelet transfusions each year.   Approximately 39,000 units of blood are needed every day in the U.S., with someone needing blood every three seconds.
