Updated: the deadline has been extended to Friday, May 7.

The two-month-long contest begins May 1 and runs through June 28. Springfield P.B.A. President, James Morton, told Patch  "This was designed as a By Springfield, For Springfield event.  The P.B.A. is not keeping any money, we want to help bring some attention to physical fitness and help raise money for some of our great local organizations."

The P.B.A.  is entering teams into the event and have challenged each Springfield
Department to do the same. The contest is designed as a team event to help encourage friends, family or co-workers to participate together and motivate each other.  If you'd like to participate and can't find   three others—contact the P.B.A. and they will find you a team.  The contest is open to anyone living or working in Springfield.

Morton emphasized that the event's goal was raising money for charities chosen by participants.
