Springfield Week in Review

A look back at the notable goings on in the township this week.

In his first year as Dayton’s softball coach, has led his girls to a historic, conference winning season. That success has been remarkable considering that before the season began, Bell was hospitalized after suffering a potentially fatal brain aneurysm. But despite the ongoing effects of the medical emergency, the coach is looking to the future.

His reasons for leaving the program so abruptly are as of yet unclear and school officials say that they can replace him quickly with a qualified candidate. Nonetheless, students and parents have expressed alarm at the situation.

The 2012 Cranford Promise Walk for Preeclampsia was by all measures a success. Organized by Springfield mother and daughter team  and sponsored by Overlook Medical Center and Jersey Family Fun, the event attracted 114 walkers and raised $17,000. Both the amount raised and the number of participants are a dramatic spike over the 2011 inaugural walk, which .

Recently, Special Olympics New Jersey held their spring festival, including the State Basketball tournament. , including clutch player Joshua Powell of Springfield, had three out their six basketball teams qualify to go to Wildwood where the state tournament is held every year at the end of March. New Jersey Hawk team the Grayhawks played four grueling games to come out on top as the 2012 SONJ Division VII Champions.
