Bergen Sworn into Freeholder Board

On Sunday, Jan. 6, Bruce Bergen was sworn into the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders. Bergen, a Springfield resident and a partner in the Cranford law firm of Krevsky, Silber & Bergen, has practiced law in Union County for 32 years and has been active in leadership and elected positions with the Union County Democratic Committee since 1979. Bergen was Springfield's township attorney for 17 of the past 19 years.

St. James Student Spreads Holiday Cheer to Shelter Animals

Madison Wright, a 5th grader at St. James the Apostle School, didn't want anybody to miss out on the holiday spirit, four legs or two, so she organized a pet products collection in her class. In the spirit of giving, her classmates donated pet food, biscuits and various toys for the Union Township Animal Shelter.

Chief Cook Provides Public Safety Update

Springfield Chief of Police John Cook provided an update on public safety to the Township Committee this week. His statistics indicated success with fighting car burglaries and with issuing motor vehicle summons.

Township Committee Holds 2013's First Work Session Meeting

Springfield's Township Committee held its first work session meeting since 2009. The informal sessions allow officials to discuss upcoming government actions in advance of their regular meetings.  Workshop meetings will take place once a month, on Mondays preceding second Tuesdays of each month. Regular meetings will be held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, for a total of three monthly meetings.
