Springfield Week in Review

A look back at the notable goings on in the township in recent days.

The opened for business on Monday, July 2, with returning businesses as well as new vendors. The market will be open every week on Mondays from noon to 6 p.m in July and August at the Dayton parking lot. The market moves to Ruby Park when school reopens in September. In addition to farmers' market staples like fruit and vegetables, Springfield residents can pick up barbecue and other specialty food and food items. 

In a formal ceremony, Springfield firefighters  were sworn in as Captains at the Township Committee meeting on Tuesday, June 26 Township Committee meeting. Both veteran firefighters were joined by their families in the ceremony. Officially, they had been promoted earlier in the month. Their appointment follows the recent promotion of. 

As it has been in years past, Springfield's 2012 . With the holiday in the middle of the week, thousands people gathered to Meisel field over the course of the evening for fireworks, live music and child-friendly features like petting zoos and more. Musical acts and the  enthralled the crowd with their music and, despite forcasts of rain, the explosive fireworks display went off without a hitch.

A Millburn teenager was in critical condition Thursday after she was . Millburn's first aid squad transported the teenager to University Hospital in Newark, where she is in critical but stable condition, Millburn Police Capt. Michael Palardy said. The 18-year-old, who will be a senior at Millburn High School in the fall, was hit in front of the Haagen-Dazs on Millburn Ave. at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday.
