The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Eric Carle Favorites

Why Go: The theater presents the Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia and their production of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," "Little Cloud" and "The Mixed-Up Chameleon" by award-winning children's book illustrator and writer, Eric Carle, retold on stage in black light. Recommended for children ages four and up. More information here.

Why Go: Multiple events take place at the Mall at Short Hills this weekend, including a reception for Israeli artists Sveta Esser and Alex Pauker at the Wentworth Gallery, a Pet Adoption Day with St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center at Kiehl's, and a Latin Cooking Technique Class at Williams-Sonoma.  Check the Mall's website for details on these and other activities.

Live Music with the Wannabes

Where/When: ; Friday, Feb. 18 9:30 p.m.

Why Go: The Wannabes are a cover band from Rahway specializing in British Invasion music of the 1960s. Their diverse set list also includes Wilson Pickett and the Monkees.

Second Annual Garden State Folk Festival

Where/When: Sunday, Feb. 20 at 3 p.m. The , Morristown.

Why Go: Four musical acts take the stage: acoustic performer Roger Deitz, veteran jug band Dirdy Birdies Jug Band, a cappella group the Hickory Tree Chorus and folk humorist Carla Ulbrich.

Mixed Nuts Comedy Fundraiser

Where/When: , Sunday, Feb. 20. 7 p.m.

Why go: Stand-up comedian Doug Adler hosts a night of all-star comedy to support the temple.

Pricing: $40 at the door.

George Washington Letter on Display at the Cannon Ball House

Where/When:, Springfield. Sunday, Feb. 20. 1 p.m.-4 p.m.

Why Go: Get personal with history as Springfield’s historic place the Cannon Ball House lets the public peer at a letter penned by President George Washington while he was present in Springfield. More information . 

Pricing:  $5 for adults, $2 for children and a family maximum of $10.
