Springfield Election Day Guide

Incumbents Mayor David Amlen and Deputy Mayor Richard Huber face Republican challengers Jerry Fernandez and Diane Stampoulos.

Springfield residents head to the polls today to elect two Township Committee members.

Democratic incumbents Mayor David Amlen and Deputy Mayor Richard Huber face Republican challengers former Township Committeeman Jerry Fernandez and newcomer Diane Stampoulos.

In last week's candidates forum, the incumbents pointed to the lowest municipal tax increase in a decade among their accomplishments while in office. Republican challengers said they want the township to have a "more effective government."
Candidates differed in their opinions on what should be done to improve the community pool, with Fernandez and Stampoulos believing the utility needs a major overhaul while Amlen and Huber noted that improvements are being made but at no additional cost to the taxpayer.
