AUTHOR URSULA PAWEL PRESENTS THE HOLOCAUST: MY EXPERIENCE AT THE SPRINGFIELD FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY

Ursula Pawel, author of My Child is Back! will appear at the Springfield Free Public Library on Monday, April 22 at 1:00 p.m. to relate her experiences in Germany from her birth to her new life in the United States. Her mother was a Christian who had converted to Judaism, her father was a Jew. In 1942 Ursula was sent to a concentration camp. The family wanted to join her but only her father and her then 12 year old brother were permitted to go with her, ultimately to their death in Auschwitz. Ursula's life was narrowly saved by the baffling intervention of two German soldiers. After liberation in 1945 she made a 500-mile trek through the occupation zones to find her mother. She eventually came to the United States in 1947.
