NJ Orators Hillside Chapter at Barnes & Noble Bookfair on Friday, February 21, 2014

The Hillside Chapter of the New Jersey Orators participated at their 3rd Annual Barnes & Noble Bookfair/Black History Month Program (Springfield Location)on Friday, February 21, 2014.  The theme of this year’s program was “Civil Right in America” celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the signing of 1964 Civil Rights Act.  Orators ranging in ages from 7 to 15 recited poems, prose and declamations… all in tribute to some of those who contributed to Civil Rights in this country.  It was standing room only!!  In addition, there were video presentations on several well know activists, such as W.E.B. Dubios, Booker T. Washington and Rosa Parks, but also gave tribute to lesser known activists, such as Whitney Young.

Souvenir programs and themed bookmarks were given to guests in attendance.  In addition, there was an educational section where prizes were awarded to those guests who could correctly answer questions at the end of the program.

The Bookfair is also a fundraiser and an opportunity for guests to make in-store and online purchases at Barnes and Noble of which a percentage of sales is donated to the New Jersey Orators, Inc.  Co-Founder, Jim Hunter also participated on the program and shared the history of the NJ Orators.

Our Orators did an outstanding job.  None of this could happen without the support of our Coaches and parents.

Congratulations to the Hillside Chapter for a job well done!!
