Training for Peer Mentors Volunteers to Help in Special Needs Programs - Registering in Springfield

The
Springfield Recreation Department will be hosting a training class for Springfield area students
(ages 12+) interested in becoming a volunteer peer mentor for youth with
special needs at recreation classes and events.  Attendees will learn more
about youth with certain developmental and physical needs and how to work with
and help these youth participate in recreation programs.  After
the training, volunteers will be able to mentor in any of our special needs
programs to be offered in in Springfield in the near future.  Mentors receive credit for community service hours
as well as valuable leadership skills, while giving back to the
community. The training will be held Tuesday, February 25 from 4:00-6:00
pm.  Contact the Springfield Recreation
Department at 973-912-2226 for more information or to register.  Pre-registration is required and space is limited.

TryCAN is a
collaboration of several neighboring communities offering an array of
recreation programs for children with special needs or those who need special
accommodation. There are no non-resident fees involved and all welcome!
