The Springfield Historical Society (SHS) announces the date and time for their annual meeting, which will be April 15, 2012 at 2 pm. The main order of business will be conducting elections to fill a number of positions on the Board of Directors, including President and Treasurer. All SHS members, as well as anyone from the general public who might be interested, are cordially invited to attend.
The meeting will be taking place at Springfield’s Historic
Cannon Ball House, located at 126 Morris Avenue, which is owned and operated by the SHS. The Cannon Ball House dates to c. 1760 and was most likely constructed by its first known owner, Dr. Jonathan Dayton of Elizabethtown. The house gets its name from the cannonball that hit the house and lodged in it’s chimney during the Battle of Springfield on June 23, 1780. This cannonball is just one of many artifacts on display in the house that relate to the Revolutionary War and Springfield. Admission is free and for more information, please call 973-376-4784. All are welcome.
