Fall – the fabulous fashion transition season!

I absolutely love the season of summer.  It has always been my favorite.  Longer, warmer, carefree days filled with the smells of ocean breezes and Bar-B-Q’s.  I love playing with fashion when it’s warm since it is such a relaxed time and you can really branch out with color and new style choices, but come Fall, when things start getting a little cooler, fashion really starts to heat up!  Patterns and colors become bolder and you can play with all the fabulous ways to transition your wardrobe.

Here are some great tips for anyone that wants to get a little more mileage out of their summer pieces.  I’m especially thinking of all you teachers out there going back to work this Fall!  It’s all about a little extra layering and accessorizing and sometimes diving in and pulling pieces right out of your packed-away-Autumn attire.

Once the weather starts getting a little cooler, take hold of some of your colorful lightweight scarves and start wearing them.  Later in the season bring on the heavier and larger ones that can be used as a wrap and really get you cozy.  There are lots of neutral styles with splashes of color that add just the right amount of punch to any outfit.

My next favorite item (and these are all great for those ice cold offices in the summer as well), is the fitted blazer.  It warms you up and keeps you looking sharp at the same time.  It’s a great piece for work because it’s so versatile and then you can just take it off and head out on the town.  They can be worn over a pair of fitted pants, a dress, shorts or skirt and top combo.  I have definitely gotten a ton of use out of mine!  I like them a little more structured to keep the outfit more feminine and flattering.  Black, navy and white are great neutrals to have to for this must-have layering piece but I have definitely seen some new versions in stripes and bold colors.

Okay keep your shorts on, but make sure they’re office-worthy by keeping the fabric a little nicer, the cut a little more streamlined and the hemline not too short of course!  A tip for when it starts getting cooler is pairing the shorts with some opaque tights.  There have been so many colors and pattern options including crochets, for the opaque tight over the last couple of years and it really can make an outfit feel and look warmer.

As I said I love summer, but transitioning to Fall can be fun and easy and it feels good to get more bang for your buck sometimes too!  Enjoy the rest of summer, but don’t forget to start taking out some of those key items for Autumn and even for the end of Summer when the nights get cooler.  You’ll be happy you did!  Personal Styling by Maya can always come to help with the transition or you can give the gift of style to someone for the upcoming season!
