ANNOUNCEMENTS

-  There are 4 days left until Election Day, November 8th.  For important Voter & Election Information, visit www.vote4z.com.  Last year, the election was determined by 50 votes. While knocking on doors, I’ve seen households where only one person voted last year. Either a wife voted and a husband didn’t, or vice versa. Every vote counts! Please come out and cast your vote for me. Please tell all your family, friends and neighbors. Help spread the word by sending them this e-mail as a reminder to vote.

-  In case you missed it in the mail, Township Committeeman Jerry Fernandez wrote a great letter that addresses some issues that are being circulated during the campaign.  Click here to read it.

-  For a comprehensive Calendar of Springfield Events, visit my website and click on the Calendar tab at the top. If you have events you would like listed, please e-mail me.

COMMUNITY

-  If you couldn’t make the last Environmental Commission “Fall Foliage Walk” two weeks ago, the Houdaille Quarry will be open for a “Fall Foliage Walk” on Sunday, November 6 at 1:30 p.m.  This is one of the most amazing attractions right in our own backyard.  Check out the Springfield Patch article here.

-  Please join us on Friday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in Veterans’ Park for the annual Springfield Veterans Day ceremony.  It is important to pause and reflect on the service and sacrifice of our military veterans.

GOVERNMENT

-  The Township Committee met this week on Tuesday in Town Hall for their regularly scheduled meeting tonight.  For your information, I have posted the Agenda and video online.  Click here to view it.

Again, no ordinances were on the agenda.  There were a few routine resolutions and a few worth noting:

Two resolutions were considered to authorize the Township to install Red-Light Cameras at the intersections of Morris Avenue & Maple Avenue and Morris Avenue & Meisel Avenue.

One resolution was considered to transfer over $124,000 between line items in the Operating Budget.

One matter that was briefly discussed concerned the abundance of dumpsters being place outside homes for prolonged periods of time.  Committeeman Jerry Fernandez accurately pointed out that the Mayor has had this listed on the Agenda since August and no action has been taken and no proposal has been set forth.

-  The Township Committee is having their next regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, November 15th at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall.  The meeting next week has been canceled.

SCHOOLS

-  The Springfield Education Foundation Sprint for Springfield Schools 5K Run/Walk originally scheduled for last Sunday was postponed due to weather.  It will be held this Sunday, November 6th.  Visit their website atwww.springfieldeducationfoundation.com for more information and to register.  If you are willing to volunteer, they can use some help.  Contact them through their website.

-  The Sandmeier School PTA is organizing weekly Co-Ed Adult Volleyball.  Anyone (18+) can join the game at Sandmeier School’s Gym every Thursday from 8-10 p.m. for $10 a session.

- The Jonathan Dayton High School PTSO & Project Graduation Committee are organizing their annual “Bulldog Basket Auction” to be held on Wednesday, November 16.  They are asking for donations of prize baskets, gift items, or gift certificates. For more information, read the letter here.

ELECTION 2011

-  The Election is next Tuesday, November 8th.  Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.  If you have not yet received your Sample Ballot and would like a copy or if you are not sure where to vote, visit my website at www.vote4z.com and click on the “Voter & Election Information” tab at the top.
