Sunday Springfield Emergency Preparedness Information Bulletin

Sunday Emergency Preparedness Information Bulletin from Springfield Mayor Ziad Andrew Shehady.

Springfield officials have been in communication with State and County emergency management officials. According to the most recent weather reports, Hurricane Sandy will bring heavy rain that will cause flooding and strong winds will result in possible prolonged power outages.  Springfield is expected to be impacted by these conditions. Based on this information, we are strongly recommending evacuations in the flood-prone areas of the following streets no later than noon Monday:

Marion Avenue, Warner Avenue, Alvin Terrace, Perry Place, Washington Avenue, Cain Street, Battle Hill Avenue, Riverside Drive, Colonial Terrace, lower South Maple Avenue, Joanne Way, Smithfield Drive, Cottler Avenue, Laurel Drive, Elmwood Road, lower Redwood Road, lower Hemlock Terrace, lower Cypress Terrace, lower Sycamore Terrace, Kipling Avenue, Mapes Avenue, Baldwin Place, Irwin Street, Wentz Avenue, Beverley Road, lower Briar Hills Circle, Edgewood Avenue, The Villas, The Cove, Walnut Court, lower Garden Oval.

Springfield has designated the Chisholm Center (100 South Springfield Avenue) as a shelter of last resort that will open at noon on Monday, Oct. 29.  It is recommended that you first shelter with family and friends before considering Chisholm Center as your shelter.

Springfield officials are treating this seriously and residents should too.  Please be assured our departments are taking all necessary precautions.  Garbage collection is suspended for Monday and Tuesday.  Remove leaves from your street and away from drains and do not place leaves in the street.
