POST OFFICE SLOWDOWN

What's going on with mail delivery.  Last week there was no mail delivery in the Garden Oval/Berkeley Rd. section of town on Friday and Saturday. When questioned, postal officials said 5 employees were out due to illness.  OK, We had a major storm, temps below zero, give them the benefit of the doubt. Now I would like to know why there was no mail delivery yesterday, 1/9/14.  Is it an unannounced cutback on home mail delivery? Is it a job action? Are carriers really sick? Have any other areas of town missed deliveries the past 10 days (we missed 3 out of 7 normal deliveries).
How about some answers.

You had a worse time than us in Princess Estates but we had missed delivery, also. We have curbside mailboxes so delivery is somewhat easier. I did shovel a walk through the plowed snow and ice for the mail person as is required of us. But, alas, to no avail.

Decided to personally mail 3 letters this morning as they didn't pick up or deliver yesterday and didn't want to miss a birthday. Asked the girl at the counter what was going on with delivery and gave me the same some are sick, one quit, etc. Said people have been complaining from all over town. They also won't deliver after 6:00 p.m. due to darkness. Last time I looked it was getting dark around 5:15. Why didn't they stop at 5:00 p.m.?

As an aside, when applying for a passport renewal for my child, I was given incorrect information. I went the State.gov and received a different answer. When the passport arrived, it was clear that the PO employee doing the applications in Springfield had NO CLUE about a very simple question. In my favor, but this is an important document. Yes, I saw your other post to the article.

I have spoken to Julianne, the Postmaster in Springfield. She is having difficulty with the quality of applicants coming into the position. It was around 1/8 when a female letter carrier, recently hired walked off the job in mid-route. The delivery problems are wide-spread throughout town. It is not unusual to see a mail truck on Meisel Ave. as late as 8:00pm.In the month of December I missed mail that comes monthly, statements of an account. On Julianne's behalf, she is taking the customer complaints personally. She has been on the job herself about 25 years and is disgusted with the quality of applicants she has interviewed. I would direct any comments or issues to her directly. 973-376-1167
