A bear that was spotted in Springfield Tuesday morning has been tranquilized and removed from the area, according to the Springfield Police Department.

Officer Jon Rachel said state wildlife authorities were on the scene Tuesday afternoon and were able to tranquilize the bear, who had been spotted behind Kearny Federal Savings Bank on Caldwell Place.

The bear has been removed from the area, Rachel told Patch at 2 p.m. Tuesday, though he could not say where the animal was being taken.

According to a report by NJ.com, the bear, believed to be a cub, had been chased up a tree on Mountain Avenue before noon while officers were standing by awaiting assistance.

We wouldn't have bears and other vermin in town if we didn't have the smell of rotting, unpicked-up garbage to attract them.

Kari the republican led government in Springfield led by former Mayor Ziad shehady was the group who sponsored the ordinance of once a week garbage collection in Springfield. From what I am read somewhere our current mayor who is democrat is going to twice a week in the summer months. Id make my displeasure known at the polls in november by not voting the republicans back in office. They brought us the turf field, BOE reorganization (refusing to listen to residents at meetings in town) and also the alleged land swap deal which seems to have gone bad. If you vote republican again it means you want Ziad in charge as mayor again. 2012 was a disasterous year for the residents of Springfield. I sure hope we do not see this again in 2014.
