Early Morning Power Outages Cause Inconvenience, but not Emergencies

No accidents or major incidents in series of brief power outages.

A number of short power outages early on Saturday, March 3, caused inconvenience but no serious problems for Springfield.

Several residents reported losing power in homes on streets in the south side of town, near Mountain Avenue. Streets affected include Essex, South Derby Road and Hillside. Residents say power went out for multiple short periods of time. One resident living near the intersection of Hillside and Mountainside said the lights went out twice; first for about five minutes and later for a half an hour.

Springfield said that while a number of traffic lights were knocked out of commission, the power loss did not cause any accidents or catastrophic events. Auxiliary police officers manned the intersections where lights were out.
