Fire on Henshaw Ave.

Late night fire does not cause injuries.

Springfield fire fighters didn’t have to travel far to respond to a second alarm fire late in the evening of Sunday, Feb. 20. The late night blaze broke out around the corner from the Springfield Fire Department headquarters.

A car parked in a driveway on Henshaw Ave. caught fire for as of yet unknown reasons shortly before 11 p.m. When Springfield fire fighters fought the car fire, the flames spread to the house, blackening the side of the home near the driveway where the car was parked.

No injuries were reported. A witness told Patch the house’s occupants—a woman, two children and a dog—were safe following the fire. The Fire Department's report on the fire indicates the house was already evacuated when fire fighters arrived.

Judging from reports, fire fighters made quick work of the blaze, confining it to the basement and first floor of the two and a half story house and preventing the fire from spreading to other homes on the residential street. Springfield Fire Department Chief James Sanford said the fire was under control at 11:50 p.m.

Fire fighters from Union, Millburn and Summit also responded to the fire. The Springfield First Aid Squad and the Union County EMS Task Force supported fire fighters on the scene.
