Flat, Drunk and Busted

A disabled vehicle leads to a DWI arrest.

You shouldn't drive drunk. But if you do, applying some common sense can keep you out of a lot of trouble;  check your mirrors, make sure the parking brakes on, etc.

It should really go without saying that you should be sure your tires are inflated, as the alleged actions of David Jong demonstrate.

According to a Springfield police report, officers stopped the 34-year-old Short Hills resident near the intersection of Meisel and Owaissa Avenues at 2 a.m. on Saturday, April 24. He was charged with driving while intoxicated.

The booze police say what he drank probably puffed up his confidence in his ability to drive. Sadly, it did not have the same effect on his tires, which were reportedly not only deflated, but "shredded" from being driven on while flat.

Perhaps not surprisingly, police say Jong wasn't able to handle the vehicle, and he crashed it into a curb.

And, actually, it's probably for the best that he didn't kick the tires. If they were as bad as police say, he might have stubbed his toe.
